Father Joseph knew what poverty was; he was born into a poor family in Angers. In 1957, he worked in a slum in Noisy-le-Grand, near Paris. He created the association “Aide à Toute Détresse – Quart Monde”. Joseph Wresinski died in 1988.
In 1980, a Polish priest, Father Popieluszko, supported the workers of his country when they rebelled against the Communist government. Four years later, the government reacted by having him assassinated by the police.
